How to build an infinite lava source

Here we will be building an infinite lava source in Java edition 1.21.5.

This build gives you an infinite source of lava which is useful in Minecraft. It works by using dripstone to drip lava into waiting cauldrons which the player can then use a bucket to empty.

Lava can be found in the lower reaches of the overworld and in the nether. It has many uses in Minecraft some of which are listed below.

  • Fuel for furnaces - a bucket of lava in furnace will last for 100 items.

  • Light source - can be placed down and used for lighting an area.

  • Barrier for defence - can be placed as a deterrent for players and mobs as they cant cross without taking damage.

  • Cobblestone and obsidian generator - when lava interacts with water it can produce either cobblestone or obsidian.

In this section we will discuss the materials and the ingredients that we need to make this build. This will give a concise list of the items and the recipe's to make them.

Here we will explain in detail how to build a lava source in Minecraft. Please follow the instructions carefully.

  1. First place 4 cauldrons down in a row so that they are touching each other.

  2. Next place 3 x 1 stone blocks down with the middle block aligning with the cauldrons.

  3. Leave a 1 block gap between the stone blocks and the cauldrons.

  1. Next place blocks on top of the stone blocks so that the wall is 4 high and 3 wide.

  1. Place ladders up both sides of the stone wall.

  1. This is the top down view of this section.

  2. Build a 6 block platform out from the stone tower.

  3. Ensure that you leave a four block gap in the platform.

  4. The gap should be over the cauldrons that we placed earlier.

  5. Fill this gap with dirt blocks.

  1. Place the pointed dripstone on the underneath of the dirt blocks. One pointed dripstone each block.

  2. This what the build should look like up until now.

  1. Build a stone wall 1 block high around the grass blocks on top of the build.

  2. Fill this with lava buckets.

  1. This is the finished build.
